Success Stories Galloper Wind Farm Galloper Wind Farm DPL provided slick, timely and efficient services to complete this important project for Galloper Wind Farm, who power nearly half a million homes with green energy and generating an asset that gives back to the community and the planet. Main Contractor: DPL Group Project Value: Circa £90k Services: Renewable Energy DPL Group’s installation of renewable energy works for RWE Renewables UK at Galloper Wind Farm Operations and Maintenance Facility Galloper Wind Farm is situated 30 km off the coast of Suffolk. The 56-turbine-strong facility generates enough green electricity to power the equivalent of more than 444,000 British homes. Maintenance of the wind farm is carried out from a state-of-the-art, purpose-built Operations & Maintenance facility in Harwich International Port. This incredible feat of modern engineering is also integral to its local community, powering more than just energy by contributing to three crucial community funds and through involvement with local schools and educational initiatives. In 2019, DPL Group worked closely with R G Carter to perform mechanical and electrical works at Galloper Wind Farm. In 2021, thanks to the existing relationship and successful execution of the initial project, DPL Group and RWE Renewables UK started to engaged in discussions about the Solar PV installation. Early considerations included two systems: one on the main building and the other a ground-mounted array with batteries to power the pontoon. Due to limitations imposed by The Port Authority the ground-mounted array for the pontoon was dropped. We were requested to review, refine, and ultimately deliver the main building Solar PV project. Final agreement was then reached in December 2023, and the installation was completed in February 2024. Bound by their port tenancy and with the facility’s supply a secondary service from the main port supply, they were unable to shop around for a more cost-effective energy supplier. As a 24-hour operation and high energy consumer, they needed to reduce operational costs, so they turned their attention to solar power as an appropriate long-term solution. To maximise their return on investment and ensure that the correct number of panels would serve Galloper Wind Farm’s exact power requirements, we used their historic consumption data to map and simulate different system sizes until we found the best match. This process demonstrated our attention to detail and expertise, working with the client to achieve the most appropriate result. Over 20 years in buildings infrastructure Name any industry, sector or type of building and we’ll have provided design, build and maintenance services for its power, light, heating, cooling, data, safety and security systems.
