This money will help change the lives of our veterans and their families, so a massive thank you to all who donated! Walking With The Wounded supports those who served “The Cumbrian Challenge is an annual fundraising event for people who want to show their support and experience a memorable team-building weekend in the Lake District. With the aim to raise funds to support those who have fallen the furthest, men and women struggling with mental health issues, unemployment, homelessness or caught in police custody. By providing early intervention programmes and speeding up access to therapy, changing the lives of veterans and, crucially, their families.” – Cumbrian Challenge As the muscle and foot aches endured on the hills lessened day by day after the event, we’re glad that the impact through our fundraising will continue for years to come for those who served. Walking With The Wounded relies on the fundraising efforts of supporters to generate income to fund their great work. The Cumbrian Challenge helps to generate significant funds and raise their profile for those who need support. By all 161 teams taking part in the event this year, we are helping change futures for veterans and their loved ones and, for some, save their lives. We heard first-hand from an ex-veteran, Marc, about the challenges he faced when leaving the military and how the team at Walking With The Wounded supported him to where he is now. The Charity was able to support 2131 people last year, but sadly the number of those who need support is rising year on year, hence why events like the Cumbrian Challenge are integral to continue to support.  Through WWTW’s employment, mental health and care coordination programmes they help to get those who served, and their loved ones, back on their feet and make a positive contribution once more. Why? Because they believe that those who served, deserve. Over £320,000 and counting was raised from the event this year – with every pound put to good use supporting our veterans and their loved ones. An incredible effort by everyone involved.
