Main Contractor: Morgan Sindall Project Value: £3 million Services: Mechanical, Electrical DPL Group’s Award-Winning Turnkey Solution for Inspirational Students and Teachers Glenwood School is a Community SEN School maintained by the Local Authority. This inspirational school provides a home-from-home environment and state-of-the-art Special Educational Needs (SEN) services and support to 210 students aged 3-19 years old. It is a co-educational school for learners with severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties. Approximately 60% have a diagnosis of autistic spectrum disorder and approximately 30% have significant physical and/or sensory impairments. DPL Group was employed by Morgan Sindall to provide a full, turn-key solution for the premises. The complete design and build project for mechanical and electrical services was valued at £3.2m, contracted by Morgan Sindall and Essex County Council. The school was relocating to a new, purpose-built premises in Thundersley, to provide an exceptional learning environment for their students. The facilities on site would now include a hydrotherapy pool, sensory room, soft play facility, and swing room, to help students develop social and communication skills, and ultimately thrive and fulfil their potential in their educational setting. ] Find out more here Services The services we provided spanned the full design and build of mechanical and electrical services. We took care of mains distribution, internal and external lighting, natural and mechanical ventilation, VRF systems, LTHW systems, underfloor heating, and building management systems. Importantly, we were also instructed to install fire alarm systems and security services, and site-wide, below-ground gas and water services. A project of this scale and importance required exceptional attention to detail, and working to very strict and predetermined briefs and requirements. Most notably, our whole team, with the wider construction team, was privileged to be part of such a special design and build, giving back over 230 volunteer hours to the local community during the project. Speak to an expert Result At the time of construction, this project was the largest that DPL had carried out to date, and is a significant milestone in our business, propelling us onto other larger-scale projects, post-completion. The quality, timeliness, and attention to detail demonstrated by DPL on the Glenwood School project have also helped us solidify our relationship and reputation with Essex County Council. The project took 36 weeks, and the new premises opened to students in September 2018. Since the ribbon was cut, the premises has received accolades from the BBC and most notably, was a worthy 2018 RICS East Community Benefit award winner.
