Success Stories Ramsden Hall Academy Ramsden Hall Academy Ramsden Hall Academy was looking to expand its premises to provide vital educational and pastoral resources for over 100 secondary-age and Year 6 male students who have an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP) for Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Main Contractor: Morgan Sindall Architect: Pick Everard Project Value: Circa £2 million Services: Mechanical, Electrical DPL Group’s installation of Mechanical and Electrical works at Ramsden Hall Academy DPL was contracted to work alongside Morgan Sindall to complete an expansive renovation and construction project to provide new residential, teaching, and pastoral spaces for Ramsden Hall Academy. The premises, based in Billericay, are part of the Parallel Learning Trust (PLT), a multi-academy trust with schools in London, Medway, and Southend. Pupils are grouped according to need and learning styles and receive crucial one-to-one and group support to aid a smooth transition through secondary education via tailored pathways to meet their individual goals. DPL’s existing relationship with the client spans over a decade, delivering over 10 multi-million pound projects collaboratively, making us the obvious choice to undertake the work at Ramsden Hall Academy. Our reputation for problem-solving and creating exceptional educational spaces in a timely and cost-effective manner made us the perfect partner. We commenced work in September 2019 on two buildings, and an extension of the education block, housing new teaching and therapeutic spaces. Alongside a new three-story accommodation block to provide residential space for a further 40 students, increasing the Academy’s ability to support more young men in need of its services. Challenges Whenever working on educational premises, maintaining consistency and minimising disruption is paramount to ensure the continued success of the students and teaching staff. The work at Ramsden Hall Academy required an agile approach to planning and execution, as multiple existing services had to be diverted through the normal school open hours to allow ongoing work and teaching to progress concurrently. We conducted a detailed survey and liaised closely with designers to meticulously plan and scope the project, finding workable solutions to diverting gas mains, sprinkler mains, water mains & incoming electrical services. Over 20 years in buildings infrastructure Name any industry, sector or type of building and we’ll have provided design, build and maintenance services for its power, light, heating, cooling, data, safety and security systems. And with concerns rising around costs and environmental impact, you’ll benefit from our expertise in greater efficiency and renewable energy sources. Speak to an expert Result Our problem-solving prowess proved indispensable to both the client and the school, as we could not only preempt and mitigate potential challenges by implementing initial site diversions but also respond to problems that arose during the project to succeed in meeting a tight deadline over the Christmas period. In addition, the quality of the work was noted in the NICEIC report for the Academy: “The business demonstrated good systems and procedures for the scope of work carried out. A good overall standard of workmanship was observed across all sites visited today.” The Ramsden Hall Academy project is another jewel in our crown, further solidifying us as a trusted and reputable partner for the education sector, as we continue to grow our portfolio in this space. Most importantly, our team continues to be heavily invested in these projects beyond the day job, with the wider impact our work has on the lives of young people.
