Success Stories Sir Peter Hall SEMH School Sir Peter Hall SEMH School A Project of Pace and Precision to Deliver a Crucial Facility Main Contractor: Morgan Sindall Architect: Concertus Project Value: Circa £1.5 million Services: Electrical, Mechanical DPL Group worked with Morgan Sindall to install Mechanical and Electrical works at Sir Peter Hall SEMH School Reputation and strong relationships gave us the perfect foundation on which to deliver this vital resource for students in Suffolk with social, emotional, and mental health needs. To create a safe, resilient, and purpose-built space to harbour progression from childhood to adulthood. Delivered through the Suffolk County Council framework and in partnership with Morgan Sindall and Concertus, DPL assisted with the construction of a brand new two-storey education facility in Bury St Edmunds, providing specialist educational provisions for 80 students with social, emotional, and mental health challenges. The newly-named school consists of three standard primary classrooms, a main hall, a hygiene room, and food and design technology rooms on the ground floor. On the second storey, it houses eight general teaching classrooms and a library. The overarching vision for the school is “to provide individualised support for all students and prepare them to become successful independent adults who make a positive contribution to their community, becoming valuable members of society, with an educational experience to look back on with enjoyment and pride.” Well-seasoned in delivering fast-paced, high-quality mechanical and engineering services to the education sector, we were contracted by Morgan Sindall to assist in the timely delivery of a full suite of services to build and complete the Sir Peter Hall SEMH School project. We were invited to assist with the project due to our growing reputation for delivering exceptional solutions for the education sector in Essex and Suffolk. The timelines were tight, and the project required problem-solving, an agile approach, and strong communication with other contractors and the client Mechanical The project comprised LTHW heating systems and HVRF & DX air conditioning systems. We fitted NVHR ventilation systems into classrooms and activity areas, and MVHR ventilation systems to WC areas, offices, meeting rooms, and circulation areas and implemented wind-catcher roof turret ventilation systems. In addition, we also installed domestic hot and cold water systems, alongside fire sprinkler systems. The science laboratory required the addition of CAT 5 boosted water supplies and natural gas installation, which extended to the boilers. The science lab also needed chemical-resistant laboratory waste and drainage systems. We also completed the installation of sanitaryware and above-ground drainage systems. Electrical Our electrical expertise and services included the installation of the incoming power supply, the main switchgear, containment systems, sub‐main distribution cabling and switchgear, and small power installation. We installed general and emergency lighting alongside external lighting and a control system. In addition, we installed data and telecommunications, an intruder alarm, and access control/door entry systems. The school also required additional provisions for disabled people, including a toilet alarm and an EVCS system. They also required the installation of a lift and a fire detection and alarm system. We also implemented electrical services associated with mechanical plant supplies including earthing and bonding and lightning protection. The high number of required M&E services, which DPL coordinated via BIM modelling, which enabled us to work together seamlessly, resulted in the project being fast-tracked and accomplished using additional labour, provided by DPL. Along with the correct project supervision, this project was completed on time and handed over to the facility to successfully open to students in September 2022.
